World Spay Day!

Spay and neuter . . . . . . we hear it all the time, but the message is always an important one. Spaying and neutering your pets is beneficial not only to your pet, but to help control the overpopulation of cats and dogs.

Many shelters are offering low cost spay and neuter surgeries. You can find a World Spay Day event at HUSUA's website.

Here are several of many reasons why your pets should be spayed and/or neutered:

1. Spaying females reduces the risk of breast cancer (yes, pets get it too and it is 90% fatal in cats, 50% in dogs) and uterine infections. Spaying before the first heat is the recommendation.

2. Neutering reduces the urge to roam. Approximately 80% of pets hit by cars are unneutered males. Also prevents unwanted litters, and testicular cancers.

3. Multiple pets in a home will get along better.

4. Male cats won't have the urge to spray. Aggression problems avoided if neutered early.

5. Overpopulation in shelters - 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized every year. Can you wrap your brain around that number? If that doesn't make you spay and/or neuter, what will?

Please help educate those who don't understand the importance of spaying and neutering!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is how cats show brotherly love!

Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at The Cat in the Clover!

We Love Dogs Too!

The Cat in the Clover loves cats . . . . . . and dogs! And because we know that small doggies like to steal their kitty siblings' snooze sacks, we decided it was time they had their very own snooze sack!

Here is the newest one to hit the shop!

These snooze sacks are reversible, washable, and have an extra pad at the bottom for cushioned comfort. As you can tell, when Kaci's kitties got their snooze sack, she decided it looked like a grrreat place for her to nap too!

Rake also thinks sleeping in a snooze sack is pawsome!

More snooze sacks will be added in the next week, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!

Mr. Chewy!

I was approached by an online food company called Mr. Chewy. They wanted to provide me with $50 of product from their website in exchange for writing a blog entry about my experience with their company.

Mr. Chewy's slogan is Delivering Pet Happiness, and I wanted to figure out the best way that I could deliver pet happiness with that $50 gift.

So I thought of our cat pals in Florida. Tigger and his sister, Callie, live in a community where there are a lot of stray kitties. Their Dad has been generously trying to help those cats by providing them food, medical attention, and shelter. He has quickly earned their trust, and in order to protect them, he has brought them into his home.

Because times are tough, feeding extra cats can quickly add up in expenses - from food, litter, and medicine. I knew that $50 would go a long way to help Tigger's new siblings.

Tigger let me know what food they would like, and I placed the order last Sunday. On Monday morning, I received an email from Mr. Chewy that the order had been placed, and would ship out that day. At Mr. Chewy, shipping on orders over $49 is free, and free is good!

Tigger received the food in record time, and here are some pictures that show how excited they were to get the delivery from Mr. Chewy!

All the kitties gave the food a big five paws up rating!

You can visit Tigger and his siblings at their blog - Friends of Stray Cats. And if you like cool cat toys and other fun items, check out their Etsy shop called The Cat Fun Attic!

Thank you, Mr. Chewy, for the pawsome experience and the opportunity to help out friends. Mr. Chewy offers both cat and dog foods and treats, cat litter, and flea and tick products. I give them an A+ for ease of website use, speedy delivery, and variety of available products.

Check out Mr. Chewy the next time you're looking for an on-line food company!

Love Is In The Air!

It's not quite February, but cats can't wait to share some love with their pals for Valentine's Day!

Pretty Hazel Basil is digging the snooze sack she got from her Valentine Zack!

Zack picked out the purrfect gift!

Tessa got this comfy kneading blankie from her beau, Mittens!

Midnight can't decide which kneading blankie she likes better, so why not just catnap on both of them?

Big Harry thinks his girlfriend is the cat's meow to send him this snooze sack!

Boogers knows that Pansy looks pretty in pink, and she is right in style with her Valentine Calvin Collar!

Let the month of love begin!

It's a Small World After All

I've had this cute spoon rest for years. I think my mother-in-law gave it to me during the time when we had our first calico cat named Callie.

After using it this morning, I was washing it off, and I turned it over and couldn't believe my eyes! I'm sure I've seen the back of this spoon rest many times, but it didn't click until today!

Nina Lyman is a cat gal I know from Facebook! She makes ceramic bowls and other items from portraits of your pets. Here is her website - Nina's Big Store!

I guess I need to start looking at the backside of other stuff around my house - who knows what I'll find!

A special pal contacted The Cat in the Clover awhile ago and said they wanted to play Secret Santa and send ten holiday Calvin Collars to friends! Here are some of the lucky kitties who got a gift from the Secret Santa!

Handsome Beepers knows how to model!

His pretty daughter, Ashlynne, looks pawsome in green!

Sweet Helen has been a good girl this year, so Santa rewarded her!

Pretty gal, Tink, is ready to celebrate the holidays!

We think red is the best color for her sister, Snow!

Handsome mancat, Sampson Silver Dollar, is glad Santa sent him a Calvin Collar too!

We'll share more Secret Santa pictures as we receive them! Thanks, Secret Santa, for surprising these pals!
